A Statement about Our Involvement in the February CPS Board Meeting

Last week, our committee released a survey asking students for feedback on their recent learning experiences with the switch in learning models.
The survey was distributed in an email to students with the wording:
The CPS Board of Education is having a meeting this Monday, February 8, where they may be deciding to switch over to full time (4 days a week) in-person learning. HHS’s Student Government will be attending this meeting, so that we can make sure the Board considers the STUDENT’S OPINIONS when they make this decision.
At the time this email was distributed, the School Board had not yet released their official meeting agenda for February 8. While it was not our intention, this wording heavily implied that the district would be discussing a switch in learning models and that our committee would be present at the meeting in-person to deliver remarks there.
On Saturday, the School Board released their meeting agenda, and it does not include potentially switching to a 4-day in-person model. As a result, it would be inappropriate for our body to speak about this potential switch at the meeting on February 8, so we have made the determination not to attend the meeting in-person.
Instead, we have submitted a short public comment to the school board and a lengthier email detailing the results of our survey in full. Should the school board decide to consider switching learning models again at their meeting in March, the Steering Committee intends to now speak at that meeting.
Thank you for your understanding.
